Hey there, my name is George McLaughlin. I'm an artist and my medium of choice is the camera. I've been creating images for over 35 years. A little background history: I first started out with black and white and developed my own film. I would happily spend hours in the darkroom printing my own images. It was fun dodging, burning, and scratching film emulsion off the edges of a negative (LOL, analog version of Photoshop). I also had experience shooting slide films. My slide film choice back then was the Fuji Velvia ISO 50. I loved the contrast and saturated characteristics of what that film was known for. Many of my images still have in some ways that Velvia like characteristics. And of course, having the images printed on Cibachrome paper. I eventually made the switch to digital and found it to be more forgiving than slide film. My film background has given me much experience from a technical standpoint. Much of my style is more artistic rather than just saying I'm a photographer. I don't want to set boundaries as many photographers do. I've done that and found that I was never satisfied with my finished work. Besides, you'll get many opinions on what those boundaries are. I have received many comments that many of my images have the look and feel of a painting. That has been the intent and style I’ve developed over time. Maybe this is an indication that I should take up painting or I wish I could paint...who knows? Hence, I'm free to create images that stir my soul!
